Widmoser and
Friends
Since rhythm
itself always had an outstanding position in the music of JW, this
particular inclination is evident throughout the compositions and the
total concept. The never ending “rhythmaning” is the unifying
point of every performance and remains with the aucience til the next
time…..

DUO WIDMOSER HOFFMANN rhythmic-virtuosic-impulsive Joerg Widmoser: a pioneer in Germany There was no swinging modern jazz violin in Germany, until he appeared on the jazz scene. Widmoser established the electric violin as an equivalent to the acoustic violin. With the Modern String Quartet he improved jazz for string quartet on an international level. Joerg Widmoser has played first violin in the successful Modern String Quartet since 1983 and won the first price at the international jazz violin competition in Stettin (Poland) in the same year. Hajo Hoffmann, first assistant professor for jazz violin at the college in Cologne (Germany), is familiar with jazz and world music as well. These two musicians excite the listener from the first bar. Their special sound with two electric violins touches people at their very soul. International artists like Stephane Grapelli, Jiggs Whigham, Tony Williams, Yehudi Menuhin, Barbara Dennerlein and Woody Shaw praised the two violinists, when they had a chance to work with them. Joerg Widmoser und Hajo Hoffmann started to work together in1996. They are using new electronic violin technique to create a so far unheard sound. After their successful album "A Touch of Jazz Violins" (BMG/RCA Victor) they present now a new independent violin duo without any rhythm section. Their spectrum in composition and improvisation guaranties a thrilling and breathtaking experience, just like on their new CD "Bicinien". |
